Combined Martial Arts Academy, (CMAA), the Gold Coasts leading Self-Defense Academy was established 25 years ago by a man with vision. Founder, Shihan Bill Wakefield had a dream and through his dedication to his sport, his passion to assist others and the strong support of his Family and friends, Bill opened his first club. He now operates dojo`s in Queensland, New South Wales. Shihan Bill Wakefield has an impressive history within the Martial Arts sporting arena, with over 30 years experience and active participation on many levels, in the sport. As Australian Coach for over 17 IKA International tournaments from 1987 - 2005, Bill is widely considered to be one of the leading Martial Arts Instructor in Australia. In 1999 Shihan Bill was induction into the Australian Martial Arts Sporting Hall of Fame as Instructor of the Year. In 2008 and 2006 he was honored by being inducted in to the (ISKA)International Sports Karate Association Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Tthis is a strong indication of the high esteem in which he is held amongst his peers. Shihan still works closely with his master Hanshi Terupe (8th Dan) who is now living and running dojo`s in New Zealand, Shihan is a member of the (IKA) International Karate Association run by world renowned karate instructor Tayayuki Kubota 10 Dan. Shihan is also a member of the International and National Kata & Kumite Refereeing Association. Shihan Bill was also asked to join the founding Board of the Gold Coast Academy of Sport when that organisation was in its infancy in 1999 and continues to be a member of that Board of Directors. |

Combined Martial Arts Academy (CMAA) has been training in Karate and been a successful Character Development school since 1986. We are located in Nerang on Queensland's Gold Coast. CMA is one of the largest Martial Arts schools on the Coast teaching self defense to all ages...from 3 to 60.
CMAA has produced champions in life as well as in the martial arts. History says one in a 500 males would be successful in getting their Karate Black Belt and one in 1000 are the stats for women. In 2007 alone, CMA has produced 25 Black Belts, 12 of these being females.
Headed by Bill Wakefield (Shihan) and a staff of expert instructors and managers, including his son Guy Wakefield, Karen Harker, Bruno D'Silva, and Jithin Thomas. CMA is always looking for upcoming Instructors where we pick talented students with the right attitudes. CMA has a strong Leadership team which Shihan develops and molds by the team development training workshops conducted every fortnight. This helps the younger generation to possess leadership and teaching qualities. Nicholas Peterson, Amod Mahatme, Nathan Naumann, Tori Fretwell, Matthew Scott and Sonya Renshaw are proudly the current team. CMA offers a number of programs for physical fitness and instruction in Karate. |
